When I fired up the Homeworld Remastered Collection for the first time and played through the first few missions of the first title in the series, I actually had to stop for a while and try to sort my memories about the game in order to see what I actually remember and what I had created using the tone and the ideas of the game.
I played through more of the upgraded experience Gearbox has managed to deliver and I re-discovered my love for the franchise, but as I played both titles, I could not shake the sense that something was missing.
Homeworld: Cataclysm is of disputed canonicity note, partially because it was made by a completely different studio (Barking Dog, which would eventually become Kerberos Productions of Sword of the Stars fame), and partially because a wild series of corporate mergers note took the rights out of Sierra's hands. I am looking for this PC Game that takes place in the future in space that was probably created during the 1990s. It involves space mining and you got out in your ship to mine small asteroids and other similar objects. You also have small military ships that you can create to attack enemy ships and to protect the mining vessels. Later on in the game, you encounter a ship that was attacked. On 32bit Windows it should be HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Sierra On-Line Homeworld, and on 64bit, it's HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Wow6432Node Sierra On-Line Cataclysm. Edit the Height, Width and Depth values, but make sure to click the Decimal radiobutton so the values are correct (inside parentheses).
Homeworld 1 and Homeworld 2 are part of the Remastered Collection and the new package comes with a lot of visual upgrades, including improved resolution, better textures, careful use of shadows, and more.
The vastness of space is even more impressive in the modern incarnation of the two titles and the gameplay remains as captivating as it was when they were first launched, with no current titles able to deliver anything similar in scope and complexity.
But unfortunately, Cataclysm, which was launched as a standalone expansion and offers a kind of side story, is not part of the Homeworld Remastered Collection and it seems that there are no plans to update it.
Gearbox seems to have tried to get the code
Apparently, the actual source code of Cataclysm, which is required in order to deliver the improved game experience, could not be located, the problem being caused by the fact that it was created by an outside company rather than Relic.
Morme: Other Stuff by your author - Homeworld: Cataclysm (this one) Homeworld 1 Ship/Script Editing FAQ (not a walkthrough, a modding guide) Homeworld 2 Script Editing FAQ (another modding guide) Ground Control 2: Operation Exodus (a unit FAQ) I also started a FAQ on the other Homeworld games (1 and 2) but never really got anywhere. Homeworld: Cataclysm for PC game reviews & Metacritic score: Homeworld: Cataclysm boasts 18 all-new ships, 25 new technologies, 17 single-player missions, and fantastic multiplay, while improving on the interface and tech.
The story is focused around the Beast, an extra galactic creature which is able to assimilate ships created by other forces and can only be defeated by special weapons.
The gravitas of the first Homeworld is lacking, but the narrative of the small mining clan that improves its abilities and tries to battle this alien presence is uplifting in its own right.
The best part of Cataclysm is that it shows the kinds of side stories that could be created with the engine that Relic developed.
Gamers could envision more games exploring the Homeworld universe, focusing on pirates or traders or more exotic races.
One of the best parts of the series is that it kept a lot of things vague, which Cataclysm exploited perfectly, and the game is a good case study for the potential full-fledged sequel that Gearbox has been mentioning.

Issues unresolved[edit]
Marine frigate capture bug[edit]
Marine frigates are unable to capture enemy vessels. Once the capture-order has been completed, ship control is never transferred, even with repeated attempts.
This is not a bug. Relic disabled the ability to capture ships that build other ships in Single Player.
